Terms of Use and Disclaimer
All crime data is from our Incident Transmittal System (INCT) database, which contains crime as originally reported to police. This data is subject to reclassification in light of further investigation. The data does not represent official statistics submitted to the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting program (UCR). All preliminary offenses are coded based on Philadelphia UCR codes and not the FBI offense classifications. All statistics are subject to change due to a variety of reasons, such as a change in classification, the determination that certain offense reports were unfounded, or late reporting. Please understand that any comparisons between INCT preliminary data as published on this website and the official crime statistics published by the FBI under the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) are inaccurate and misleading. The Philadelphia Police Department does not guarantee (either expressed or implied) the accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or correct sequencing of the information. The PPD will not be responsible for any error or omission, or for the use of, or the results obtained from the use of this information. All data visualizations on maps should be considered approximate, and attempts to derive specific addresses are strictly prohibited. The reports provided by this application include only incidents that can be mapped. Some incidents can not be placed on the map if the address information is incorrect or the street centerline file that geocodes has a mistake or is missing a street. From the most recent analysis, there is 96%-98% geocoding accuracy. Crimes that are reported and do not appear on the maps are still investigated and processed according to Police Department procedures.

The Crime Mapping application enables the public to access Police Department incident data using a map-based interface and has the following features:
  • Filter incidents based on a crime classification, dates and location
  • Click on mapped incidents to see details
  • View incident data in a table
  • Download files of data displayed on the map
This is a new application.  It has been developed on a very short timeline, and we are uncertain of the amount of use it will receive or how people will use the web site.  In order to provide quick responses for people using the application, we are initially limiting both the types of crime classifications (only serious crimes will be displayed initially) and the period of time that can be displayed (initially limited to 30 days).  As we learn more about how people use the web site, it is the Police Department's intent to both add more crime classifications and extend the time spans that can be displayed.  If you would like to make suggestions about features to include in future versions of the software, please use our Feedback Form to let us know what you think.
